What was your biggest fear about building on Bitcoin before Fractal?
Our biggest fear about building on Bitcoin was the prohibitively high onchain fees and the lack of smart contract functionality that would enable complex gaming mechanics.
Walk us through your first day building on Fractal. What surprised you?
The 30-second block time and stable block production really surprised us, especially considering Fractal uses merged mining to ensure network security. The consistency was remarkable compared to what we expected from a Bitcoin-based network.
What Bitcoin protocols are you using and why?
We support and are compatible with BRC-20, Runes, and CAT20 protocols, which we use for in-game transactions and trading. We utilize Ordinals to build our Avatar system, incorporating advanced techniques like parent-child inscriptions and recursive inscriptions. We're also exploring how Alkanes contracts could bring new gameplay mechanics to SatWorld.
This multi-protocol approach allows us to leverage the unique strengths of each standard while creating a comprehensive gaming ecosystem that can adapt to Bitcoin's evolving infrastructure.
When did you realize "this actually works"?
The breakthrough moment came when we successfully built an onchain character customization system using Ordinals and brought these inscriptions directly into our game. You can see an example of our avatar system here.

How much did you save in development costs compared to building elsewhere?
Gas costs during transactions are basically negligible — we've probably reduced our gas investment by about 10,000 times compared to other networks! This cost reduction has been crucial for enabling frequent in-game transactions and testing.
